About the event
Anima, formerly known as the Glen Ellyn Theater Chorus and the Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus, was founded in 1964 to celebrate and showcase the voices of young local singers. It quickly grew to include singers from throughout greater Chicagoland and rose to acclaim performing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and touring around the country and eventually the world. To better express the spirit of singing together, the group changed its name to Anima in 2008. This means life, breath, soul, spirit.

Realizing that fewer and fewer elementary schools have choirs, and that junior high school directors have a shrinking pool of interested students, the Galesburg Community Chorus intends to increase the interest of our area youth in singing and joining choirs.
In April, the third through fifth graders that make up the Anima Treble Chorus, accompanied by the director and chaperones, will ride the Amtrak to Galesburg. They will perform and do outreach activities with students at area elementary schools, as well as rehearse together. The day will culminate in a choral festival featuring the Anima Treble Chorus performing alone, the combined festival choir, and one or more area junior high choirs. We hope to inspire children with the love of choral singing and build interest in participating in choirs through these activities.
